In late 1995 the ever increasing shopping cart management dilemma was brought to the attention of what is now, Dane Technologies Inc. Cart retrieval soon became a major factor in store operations, adding overhead, potential liability and risk of injury or damage to employees, customers, retail facilities themselves and customers’ vehicles. Add to all of this the reality that the workforce was getting older, more diverse, cart return related injury claims were skyrocketing at the same time as healthcare costs and liability risk insurance costs. Customer Service personnel were spending time with shopping carts instead of with customers and employee turnover was increasing as a direct result. One manager of a large discount retailer recalls when he offered his service personnel $20.00 per hour to return carts from the parking lot to the front of the store… and no one volunteered.
OSHA reports, strain- related injuries cost US employers about $20 million annually in workers comp claims.
Dane Technologies saw the answer to all of these challenges in one simple power-assist vehicle to mechanize the cart return process. The company persevered through very intensive product development challenges to create a safe integrated shopping cart return system where one person can now do the work of many; and they can do this previously labor intensive task faster, safer, with a much lower risk of injury or damage to property. Plus, now, a task that was limited primarily to the young physically developed associate can quickly, easily and safely be done by nearly anyone in the workforce. Since the introduction of the QuicKART® Dane Technologies has been the industry leader in Power Cart Return systems. Today the QuicKART® is in use at many of the Worlds leading store chains including Target, Wal-Mart, Kmart, Costco, Supervalu, H.E.B., Tesco and Sainsbury just to name a few. After extensive and repeated side-by-side testing and evaluation, the QuicKART® and Dane Technologies have been selected as the preferred vendor at many of the Worlds Market Leaders. There are over 10,000 QuicKART’s® working around the globe every day, increasing operation efficiencies, productivity, job satisfaction, employee retention, the range of potential job candidates; all while at the same time reducing or eliminating shopping cart related injuries, property damage, liability risk, shopping cart inventory and giving retailers a huge competitive advantage, an edge over their competition.
Retailers utilizing a power cart system by Dane Technologies, Inc. see a reduction in labor of between 30 and 60 hours per week and an elimination of injuries related to manual cart return.
It wasn’t long after the launch of the QuicKART ® before Commercial and Industrial Logistics experts who witnessed the effectiveness of the QuicKART® Power Cart Return systems whenever and wherever they went shopping saw how the same technology could be applied to their applications. The PowerPal® line of products was introduced to handle the movement of wheeled loads in commercial and industrial settings. By combining a powerful drive on a small, maneuverable platform, we are pushing, pulling, tugging, and moving heavy wheeled loads in workplace environments as varied as Rush Presbyterian Hospital, Host Marriott, Ford, IBM, Mayo Clinic, Boeing, Disney World and several others. Most recently, we have introduced the M3i® series of Power Assist Vehicles to further increase the maneuvering capabilities, productivity, safety and cost effectiveness of moving heavy wheeled loads.
At about the same time Healthcare professionals recognized the advantage Dane Technologies could bring to them after seeing our QuicKART® Power Cart Return Systems in the Retail sector. We responded first with the creation of the PowerPal® 1000 and 3100 for medical applications. Health care facilities of all types need employees of diverse physical stature and strength to transport heavy equipment throughout ever expanding floor space. In fact, it is often the case that they must make multiple trips across long distances. The PowerPal® series are powerful, compact, highly maneuverable power assist machines that increase productivity and decrease injuries involved in transporting wheeled loads around workplaces. By mechanizing the process of transporting wheeled loads, a single employee can safely and efficiently transport substantially larger loads then before.
In 2005 our Healthcare business continued to expand Dane Technologies acquired the assets of Fena Design, the developers of Vertran®, a power wheelchair giving the wheelchair bound the ability to stand, and easily navigate through their home, office or outdoors. Many studies and ongoing research has indicated that giving the wheelchair bound the ability to stand can have a dramatic affect on their lives.
At the end of 2005 we moved to a new larger facility to better match our capabilities to our customers needs.
Early in 2006 we launched the new future of power cart return for the Retail industry with the all new QuicKART M3® series, the 3rd generation of the best-selling remote control cart-return system. We also, launched new improved models of our industry-leading SmartKART® the ultimate power shopping machine for handicapped shoppers.
In July of 2006 we changed our name from Dane Industries to Dane Technologies to better reflect our advanced technologies built into every product we make.
Most recently, advancement for Dane Technologies in the Healthcare sector has come from the challenges of transporting patients in wheelchairs that can include ramps and carpeting increasing the strain and exertion necessary to complete the task. Dane Technologies has responded by providing a mobility solution in the form of a WheelChair Mover®, the first power-assist wheelchair mobility solution that protects caregivers from debilitating repetitive stress injuries while maximizing their productivity.”
On November 3, 2006, LEVO Switzerland and Dane Technologies Inc. partnered together to bring a better quality of life to more wheelchair users of every age across the United States. By combining LEVO’s innovative standing technologies with Dane’s strong service network the LEVO/Dane Team was able to offer the U.S. market a complete range of standing solutions backed by seamless service. This created more opportunities for people to experience the mobility, independence and health benefits achieved through the use of standing wheelchairs.
On March 27, 2007 Dane acquired the outstanding shares of LEVO AG. As a result, LEVO AG becomes a wholly owned subsidiary of Dane Technologies Inc.
